How We Build Retail Responsibly

Sustainability isn’t a buzzword at PD — it’s baked into how we design, build, and deliver every project. That’s why we promoted Sarah McPherson to the role of Director of Sustainability, to ensure our best efforts are always put forward. It’s worth taking a moment to recognize just how much work goes into that commitment.

From the materials we source to what happens when a display reaches end-of-life, our team has built a system that genuinely reduces waste, cuts emissions, and raises the bar for responsible manufacturing. Smarter material use, modular fixture design, and energy-efficient operations reduce waste and extend product life cycles, often resulting in meaningful cost savings for our partners.

For us, sustainability is both an environmental responsibility and an enterprise imperative. It is about sustaining the business and the communities we operate in. Long-term thinking strengthens resilience, improves efficiency, and ensures we are creating value that lasts well beyond a single project.

Here’s a snapshot of what we’re doing:

  • Sourcing FSC-certified wood, recycled-content fabrics, and low-VOC inks as standard practice
  • Designing modular, refreshable fixtures that extend product life and reduce material waste
  • Running custom takeback and recycling programs that divert wood, metal, plastics, and electronics from landfills
  • Conducting an annual third-party GHG inventory to keep our emissions tracking honest and transparent

We’ve been a certified Great Green Printer since 2009, and the roadmap ahead is just as ambitious — from renewable energy partnerships to testing next-generation bio-based substrates and recycled-content materials.

This work reflects the values of everyone on our team. Every design decision, material choice, and process improvement adds up. Thanks to the effort across departments, we’re building a more responsible company — one project at a time.
