It can feel nearly impossible to escape discussion of AI – whether it’s in the news cycle as legislators discuss regulation or friends and family making a recipe they found using ChatGPT. It’s inevitable: AI is everywhere and its influence on our day-to-day lives keeps growing and growing.
This, of course, includes how businesses are using AI to find efficiencies and ultimately drive growth. According to McKinsey*, nearly two-thirds of companies surveyed in 2025 indicated they are piloting and experimenting with AI products and programs. PD finds itself at the same critical juncture. We recognize the value of AI for researching, creating, and building, but we need to remain cautious of the risks as we explore the possibilities.
To help us on this journey and exploration, PD has developed a set of company guidelines. Additionally, the AI Steering Committee has been created to evaluate tools as we move forward.
Guidelines that provide flexibility
AI technology moves quickly, so the guidelines are intended to function as flexible guardrails that will allow our processes to grow and allow individuals some level of autonomy, while giving weight to ethics, and data security where AI is integrated into core workflows. The AI guidelines are as follows:
- Only use PD approved AI platforms.
- Never share confidential or sensitive data.
- Human oversight is mandatory.
- Respect copyright and originality.
A committee that evaluates
To help evaluate emerging AI tools and provide guidance on responsible AI use companywide, PD has assembled an AI Steering Committee. The members for this committee applied back in November and December, with the committee meeting for the first time in January. Their first order of business is to assess which tools are currently being used by individuals at PD to deepen our understanding of what efficiencies are already being unlocked.
AI is quickly changing the landscape. PD recognizes these tools as human-force multipliers—they don’t work without people checking and balancing them. With flexible guidelines in hand and a steering committee that can assess tools and develop best practices, PD will stay at the cutting edge of whatever comes next while still maintaining the humanity at the center that makes it all possible.
