Imagine a semi-truck. But it’s not your average semi-truck—it’s decked out with a cow catcher in the front, a crossbow on top of the cab, and lots of barbed wire and spikes to scare away passersby. Like something out of a Mad Max-inspired dream, it’s a true road warrior, ready to slay demons or zombies alike.

That was exactly the prompt that was put before the Creative, Strategy, and R&D teams in the Big Rig project. Based on the new comic book by musician Post Malone, the team was tasked with bringing the vision of a nightmarish 18-wheeler to life. We were given a simple, black-and-white sketch to reference; the rest had to come from our imaginations.
In addition to its demon-slaying capabilities, our rig had a few additional must-haves. The plan was for the Big Rig to go on tour with Post Malone, which meant it needed to be assembled and taken apart easily. Since it was going to be parked outside, it needed to be made from durable materials. Post Malone’s team responded enthusiastically to our first round of design work with just one, simple note: “More badassery!”

We worked with the local prop shop, Apropos, to finish the build. The final design is PD at its best, when we take the impossible task, stretch ourselves, and help dreams get realized.
