Trusting the Creative Process: Spotlight on Amy Lindberg

The Halloween contest last year and the T-shirt design this year have a few major things in common. First, they both showcase the immense amount of creative talent that resides at PD. Second, they were both won by Amy Lindberg. In an email interview, the PD Press learned more about what inspires the HR coordinator to create these award-winning designs.

Drawing inspiration from Pinterest’s endless scroll of home design concepts, event décor, and natural living ideas, Amy approaches creativity as an exercise in faith. “Creativity seems like a muscle and once you exercise and nurture your imagination, it flows more naturally without even knowing where the ideas come from,” she explains, embracing an intuitive approach over rigid planning.

Perhaps most revealing is her relationship with uncertainty during the creative process. “Every time I start a new project, I always need to remind myself to trust the process,” Amy shares, describing the surprise that comes when layers of work suddenly coalesce into something meaningful. “Most of the time I am working, I feel like there is no way it’s going to work out.”

This philosophy extends to collaborative work, evidenced in her recent t-shirt design project. “The t-shirt design was no solo effort,” she emphasizes, crediting team members Tom Jackson, Kari McGill, and Kelli Leuer for transforming an initial vision into reality.

As far as advice for others looking to tap into their own creative potential, Amy believes that everyone is creative at the end of the day. “Finding creative inspiration typically starts with a problem, whether the question is how to cover a blank canvas or how can I get this product to our customer in time,” she says. “I think we are all made with a great capacity for creativity.”
